The cast of Blue Bloods revealed their own family recipes and put it together in a cookbook. But Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, has an unexpected dish she eats for Christmas Eve.
‘Blue Bloods’ has a cookbook
Every episode shows the Reagans gathering around the dinner table for a meal. They catch up on their lives, and the tradition has a touching backstory.
Jamie (Will Estes) told Eddie (Vanessa Ray) they have dinner “because my grandmother grew up poor in a small town in Ireland. he was the oldest of 12 kids and there was never enough to eat. She moved to New York to make money. She met my grandpa and when they got married she promised herself that they would always have more than enough to eat. Family dinner was just her way of proudly proving that every week.”
Moynahan decided to release a cookbook called The Blue Bloods Cookbook. Multiple cast members submitted a recipe for the book.
“Every cast member gave a recipe,” Moynahan told CBS. “What’s been nice about the cast is everyone’s very different in the way they eat. Will [Estes] is vegetarian. His recipe was completely different than everybody else’s… it’s much more of a meat-and-potatoes kind of cookbook. Tom Selleck’s wife provided a recipe for Shepherd’s Pie which was absolutely delicious. It’s nice to see what everybody grew up on.”

Most families enjoy ham for the holiday, but the star’s family eats another kind of meat to celebrate. Moynahan’s family enjoys meatballs for Christmas Eve.
The recipe makes 15 meatballs and uses 1 pound ground beef and 1/4 pound ground pork. In the end, it can be served with egg noodles, rice, bread, or mashed potatoes. The recipe is found in Moynahan’s cookbook, but also it’s been shared online.
The cookbook also has a recipe for a ham
If you’re not interested in bringing Moynahan’s dish to your Christmas table, the book also has recipes that is normally aligned with the holiday. There is a recipe for glazed ham.
“We had a glazed ham for dinner once which inspired the one for the book,” Moynahan said, according to CBS. “It was blend of sweet and salty. The glazed ham was irresistibly crispy. We could not stop picking the crispy bits off in between takes.”
The cast has talked about eating while filming the dinner scenes at specific times. So it’s not surprising to hear that they really did enjoy some of the ham while filming.
